WWII Marines Uniform Set with Shorts

Consistent with all other MARINES jerseys (in road gray with red trim), this uniform is set apart by the addition of a pair of shorts/trunks (source: eBay image).

Perhaps this uniform is the most common seen listed for sale at various antiques and auction sites, however this group has a feature that distinguishes it from most other Marines uniform sets. In addition to the the trousers that accompany the jersey, an additional uniform item, a matching pair of road-gray flannel shorts that were most-likely to be used in the hot and humid tropical climates of the South Pacific or perhaps, they were used part of a separate basketball uniform belonging to the veteran of origin.  Aside from the shorts, the jersey is of the same construction and design as other road gray and red trimmed Marines uniform tops of the War. From light gray convex, two-hole buttons along with the single red button centered on the “I” (in MARINES) to the absence of manufacturer’s tags, this jersey is consistent with all Marines jerseys.

The trousers are matching grey flannel and are appointed with the red rayon soutache down the outer seems of the legs.
