Game 6 – Service World Series, September 30, 1944

This scorecard originates from what is often referred to as the 1944 Army vs Navy World Series. This particular game (the sixth of 11) was played at Hickam Field, on September 30, 1944. The Navy extended their win streak to six games with a 6-4 victory over the Army in front of 12,000 GIs.
This single sheet, utilitarian scorecard is printed on somewhat low-grade paper with a single-color (black, monochrome). The pages show some wear but the overall condition is very good. The corners are dog-eared and there are creases and piece of cellophane adhesive tape where the card was likely affixed to a scrapbook page.
This card was printed to be used for both games that were played at Hickam Field. Game Two, played on September 23, was the second victory for the Navy with a score of 8-2.
The Rosters for both of these last championship series games are nearly identical (to those in the other scorebooks from the series) with the same combination of major and minor leaguers along with a few semi-professionals and a collegiate ballplayer.
More talent resided within these two rosters than all of the major leagues had in 1944. In the eleven games played in front of the service members, the talent on the field was unparalleled leaving as the game’s best were in Hawaii.
